Chancellor's Statement on China and Myanmar
All of us are deeply saddened over the devastation following the earthquake in China and the cyclone in Myanmar. On behalf of the UCLA community, we express our heartfelt sympathy and concern to the members of our campus community and the people of Los Angeles whose family and friends have been affected by these disasters.
Several endeavors are underway on our campus to assist in the relief efforts. Students are holding candlelight vigils and raising funds to send to those in need. Our School of Public Health and our medical center are also providing assistance. The medical center's Trauma
Psychiatry Program and the UCLA National Center for Child Traumatic Stress have made available a simplified Chinese version of the Psychological First Aid Field Operations Guide, which deals with acute disaster intervention. More than 10,000 copies are being distributed in
China.
We are also reaching out with letters to students, to partner universities in China and to the local Chinese consul general, expressing our condolences and offering to help in whatever ways we can.
